Laminate Flooring Installation in Seattle, WA
We install laminate flooring in the north end of Seattle, the neighborhoods within about 30 miles of our Mukilteo showroom at 4433 Russell Rd. That covers Northgate, Lake City, Greenwood, Ballard, Wedgwood, and View Ridge, most of it a straight run down I-5 or Highway 99 in under 40 minutes outside of rush hour. West Seattle and the Rainier Valley fall outside our range, and we would rather tell you that up front than waste your afternoon.
Laminate fits a specific slice of the homes we see in this part of the city. Ballard and Greenwood are full of early-1900s Craftsman bungalows, and Wedgwood and View Ridge were largely built out in the 1940s and 1950s during developer Albert Balch's postwar developments. In both cases, laminate makes the most sense in the bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways, the dry, everyday-traffic rooms where a durable, photographic wood look holds up well and costs less than replacing original hardwood outright. It is not the right call for the finished basements and daylight lower levels common in Northgate and Lake City's newer infill and multifamily construction, or for any kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room. Laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof, and its core can swell if water sits on it. For those wetter rooms we point homeowners toward LVP instead.
What Determines Your Quote
A free on-site measure gets you one exact written price. A few things move that number:
- Board quality and wear layer. A thicker core and tougher wear layer cost more up front and last longer underfoot.
- Subfloor flatness. Laminate is a floating floor, so it telegraphs every hump or dip beneath it. Pre-war plank subfloors under Ballard and Greenwood Craftsman bungalows settle and drift out of level over the decades, and we check for that before writing a price.
- Layout and stairs. An open living room installs faster than a hallway full of doorways and closets, and stairs are counted per step, in writing.
- Tear-out and haul-away. Removing old carpet, vinyl, or worn flooring is built into your written quote.
Our Installation Process
We start with a free on-site measure at your north Seattle home, checking the subfloor for level before writing anything down. Your boards acclimate on site ahead of installation, then our GAIA-certified crew levels or repairs the subfloor, common in pre-war construction, and installs your new floor to the manufacturer's written specs. We finish with a walkthrough so you can inspect every board with us before we call the job done.
Every installation carries a lifetime workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer's product warranty, and we are licensed, bonded, and insured, WA Contractor Reg. #ELITENF764BT.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you install laminate everywhere in Seattle?
Quick answer: no, only the north end, including Northgate, Lake City, Greenwood, Ballard, Wedgwood, and View Ridge, since those neighborhoods sit inside our service radius from Mukilteo. Call and we will tell you honestly whether your address qualifies.
Is laminate a good fit for a Wedgwood or View Ridge basement?
Quick answer: usually not. Laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof, and the finished basements common to Wedgwood and View Ridge's mid-century homes see real moisture. LVP is the better choice for those lower levels, and we will tell you which rooms fit which floor at the estimate.
Should I put laminate over the original fir in my Ballard bungalow?
Quick answer: only if the original wood underneath is too damaged to save. If the fir or oak under your carpet is sound, refinishing it usually keeps more character and resale value than covering it up. We check that during the free on-site estimate and tell you honestly which way to go.
Does laminate hold up in a busy Northgate or Lake City household?
Quick answer: yes, in the dry rooms. Laminate resists scratches better than most flooring, which makes it a solid pick for bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways in households with kids, dogs, and furniture that moves. Just keep it out of the kitchen and bath.
